Our Journey

Simple Luxury began with one mission: to merge agriculture, clean beauty, and representation into something meaningful. As our founder, Sa'Mya Somerville, works toward earning her degree in Agricultural Studies at UMES, she brings her passion for plant science, sustainability, and community into every product we create.

A Story of Growth, Opportunity & Faith

When Sa'Mya arrived at UMES in the fall of 2024, she took a bold step by joining the WBENC Women of Color (WOC) Incubator. This national program equips emerging women entrepreneurs with mentorship, business strategy, and pitch experience, highlighting her commitment to growth and impact.

During the program, she refined her vision for Simple Luxury, developed a stronger brand story, and learned how sustainability and representation in beauty could be transformed into an influential business model. Her dedication shone through when she won the UMES pitch competition, earning recognition for her innovation and passion!

This success opened the door to a new opportunity: attending the WBENC National Conference in June 2025, where she socialized with global corporations, fellow founders, and leaders championing diversity in entrepreneurship.

Her background in agriculture fuels Simple Luxury's mission to deliver clean, organic beauty care that centers and uplifts people of color, demonstrating her dedication to purpose-driven entrepreneurship.

SaMya's work has been recognized not once, but twice, by WBENC — including features in national articles highlighting inspiring student founders and rising startup entrepreneurs:
